2014 was a record-breaking tourism year for Chicago. More than 50 million people flocked to the Windy City to experience some of Chi-town’s food, political intrigue and gangster history. That era was a period that roughly spans from 1919 until 1933 when alcohol prohibition was repealed. Chicago was the location of the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929, where Al Capone sent men to gun down members of his rival gang, North Side, led by Bugs Moran. Besides the infamous bad guys, new moguls, mavens and power players like the Obamas and Oprah Winfrey also call Chicago home. If that’s not enough, there is the molecular gastronomy of ALINEA by Grant Achatz. Yes, I went there.
