Oprah has done so many amazing things in her life, and thanks to the empire she’s built, can afford to go on pretty much any travel excursion her little heart desires.
The once talk show host, now media mogul, is all about living the best of your life, and recently she did just that when she jumped aboard Holland America Line’s (HAL) Alaskan cruise, better known as ms Eurodam.
Partnering up with O, The Oprah Magazine, HAL hit the open seas on July 15th, heading to Alaska from Seattle, with visionaries setting sail for a week of inspirational and empowering activities and talks. Guests partook in meditation sessions in the morning with instructor Sarah Ivanhoe and learned all about eating healthy with Elettra Wiedemann, also known as the founder of Impatient Foodie.
The editor and chief of ‘O’ Magazine, Lucy Kayln as well as Oprah’s BFF (and O’s editor-at-large) Gayle King offered behind-the-scenes input on the award-winning mag; while books editor Leigh Haber led an interactive conversation session with Elizabeth Strout, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, all in the Reading Room, a first-ever for ‘O’.
When it came to cruise shows, Angela Davis, SuperSoul 100 Member, provided an empowering speech during a performance and another SuperSoul 100 Member, India.Arie, who also happens to be a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter performed on cruise’s main stage during her SongVersation presentation.
As the cruise wore on, Jayne Jamison, breast cancer survivor and senior VP/publisher and CRO of the Oprah Magazine, got people active by leading 150 walkers during a 5K (non-competitive, of course) walk along the ship’s deck; all is support of cancer research, raising over $10,500 for five cancer organizations worldwide.
All these speakers, performances, and activities are enough to have anyone want to hop aboard, still, Oprah herself eventually took the mainstage as well during the cruise and hosted A Conversation with Oprah; offering two speaking engagements that were booked to the hills. She spoke about her climb to the top, her ‘Year of Adventure’, and her goal of making this cruise the start of something big for those in attendance. We are sure she’s accomplished that mission!
