Obama Family Enjoys Indonesian Adventure

Dorathy Gass

Since finishing his White House term earlier this year, Michelle and Barack Obama and their girls (Malia and Sasha) have taken quite a few travel trips recently, enjoying their new-found freedom from leaving “dad’s” old job as President of the United States of America behind.
They are at it again! Embarking on an Indonesian adventure this time, said to last nine days, travelling to the land where Barack had once lived when he was little. Their vacation has already included some rafting along Bali’s Ayung River. The Obama family were also invited to visit West Java’s Bogor Palace, the home of Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo; asked by Widodo himself, of course.

MSN reported that Barack is a speaker at July’s Indonesian Diaspora Congress, taking place in Jakarta. But still, the visit certainly shouldn’t be ‘all work’ and ‘no play’.
In 1967 and at six years of age, President Obama moved to this country once his mom, Ann Dunham, was remarried to an Indonesian man. He would return to Hawaii, his native land, when he hit ten years old, and lived with grandparents. According to reports, at one point while he was in Indonesia, there is a plan for he and half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, to visit the area their mom conducted anthropological research; Yogyakarta.

Where is the former-first family staying during this trip? According to reports, none other than Sayan, Ubud’s Four Seasons Resort Bali. While they’ve only recently arrived in Indonesia, the foursome has already hiked through rice fields, spent time in a Jatiluwih village, and met local Para Subak famers as well.

Never a dull moment with those Obamas … is there? Before this trip, they visited the French Polynesia and the British Virgin Island. Barack loves mixing business with pleasure and during his speaking tour has spent time in Montreal, London, and Italy; working, but enjoying the sights as well.
