Some interesting travel news for anyone headed into the San Francisco area for either business or pleasure, anytime soon; that is, if you are travelling to the area without a budget. The most expensive Airbnb in the city is now being turned into a gorgeous boutique hotel.
As per Fortune, the city’s Payne Mansion that is currently an Airbnb listing for a whopping $10,000 each night, is being turned into a restaurant and hotel that will focus on California-type French cuisine.
The mansion has a longstanding history with San Francisco, as it was originally founded in 1881. It is being reported that after the transformation, the hotel will be known as Mansion on Sutter, while the restaurant is being called 1881; honoring the timeless story this structure has had within the city. The hotel and restaurant are being slated for completion by the fall of this year.
While the Airbnb wreaks of charm, during an era when fine attention to detail was an important feature, one of the more interesting qualities of this building (other than its stunning décor both inside and out), is the mansion stands as one of the few Victorian-style homes that still remain in the city, after the big earthquake that hit San Francisco in 1906.
Travel and Leisure reported that Payne Mansion was bought in early 2018 by Bernard Rosenson, entrepreneur, for approximately $12 million. As per a statement from his son, it seems that the restaurant’s (1881) concept and menu is currently being developed, while the establishment itself will showcase a full bar.
The hotel is at 1409 Sutter Street, and is sure to become another incredible feature to the already trendy neighbourhood. After all, who wouldn’t want to live near a mansion that looks straight out of Downton Abbey? It is sure to offer an incredible experience for all travellers who visit.
